Breakfast At Tiffany's in London
Starring:
Pixie Lott, Verity Rushworth
Head for the Theatre Royal Haymarket for a huge musical theatre treat, lifted perfectly from the 1961 American romantic comedy film starring Audrey Hepburn and George Peppard, which was in turn inspired by Truman Capote's excellent novel. The movie also starred Patricia Neal, Buddy Ebsen, Martin Balsam and Mickey Rooney, and delivered an instant monster hit to its makers Paramount Pictures.
Hepburn's famous portrayal of Holly Golightly as the deliciously naïve and eccentric 'it' girl, who moves gracefully through café society, shot her to stardom and proved one of her best-loved roles. She herself found Holly’s extroversion immensely challenging, being a shy person in real life.
The film won two Academy Awards, one for Best Original Score and Best Original Song for Moon River. The song captivated the world, and was eventually named the fourth most memorable tune in Hollywood history by the American Film Institute. In 2012 the movie's reputation was sealed forever, labelled a 'culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant' piece of work by the US States Library of Congress and preserved for posterity in the USA's National Film Registry. The rest is history!
Since the movie hit our screens all those years ago, David Merrick produced an unsuccessful Broadway musical version in 1966. In 2004 a new musical adaptation hit the world's stages and in 2009 UK actress Anna Friel led the West End adaptation at the Haymarket Theatre. 2013 saw it raise the rafters at New York's Cort Theater, with Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke at the helm. Now it's back in town.
Breakfast at Tiffany's – The story
Vivacious, sparkling Holly Golightly is a good-time girl in 1940s New York. She's working as a high class escort, looking for a rich man to marry. Paul Varjak, a wannabe writer, has just moved into her apartment block with his companion, a wealthy older woman. When Holly and Paul meet, sparks fly.
The director of this fabulous new production is Nikolai Foster and the Designer is Matthew Wright. The music comes courtesy of Grant Olding, Lighting from Ben Cracknell and Sound from Mic Poole. The end result is polished and sophisticated, fun and light-hearted, a joyful theatreland experience.

Not the coventional storyWas great to see an adaption to threatre although the story was lacking charme. Pixie Lott was not good as Ollie, her face constantly forcing to imitate a weird american accent and try to be too pretentious. Clothes for Ollie were not stylish at all, make up was eccessive. I would not recommend this show, it has no charm or soul.

Difficult to hear and therefore understand the story line.Difficult to fill in the above questionnaire truthfully as my comments impinge on all aspects. 1. the speech was too fast. I could not comment on diction as the words were not clear. It was therefore not clear to me on A27 of the Royal Circle. My friend who does not wear hearing aids similarly found it difficult. 2 I wear a hearing aid - like many - 1 in 5 people wear a hearing aid according to the RNID. - I could NOT hear the performers it was a gabled noise interspersed with a few words. Very disappointed 3 And you do not have a hearing loop - WHY???? According to the Divisibility act 2010 Service providers are required to make changes, where needed, to improve service for disabled customers or potential customers. There is a legal requirement to make reasonable changes to the way things are done (such as changing a policy), to the built environment (such as making changes to the structure to improve access) and to provide auxiliary aids and services (such as providing information in an accessible format , an induction loop for customers with hearing aids, special computer software or additional staff support when using a service) The performers do not have to wear microphones but their voices and be picked up in other ways. 4 I expected better than this from one of our major theatres!!! 5. I feel I wasted my money and if asked to recommend would have to point out these faults. 6. Not enamoured of Pixie Lott's presentation of the songs. It gave the impression that she was not either comfortable or really capable of playing the guitar!

Worse play everI booked the tickets to take my sister who is visiting from the US. We both liked the movie and thought the play would be a good idea. The play did not do justice to the movie. The acting was bad and the script boring. It was simply awful. Really regret going to see this play.

BoringThe beginning was a few lines of Moon River. Was it good? I dont think so. The actors are good but I was expecting a lot more from Pixie Lott. She tried the posh accent which I dont like. The acting was average (maybe because she is not an actress) and I wasnt impress about her singing Moon River at the end. She sang a total of 2 songs plus a few lines at the start. You want my advice you better not because my answer would be - it will be a waste of your time and money. Sorry this is my personal opinion as an avid fan of musicals.

Fantastic must see show!!A really great show. Pixie Lott can sure sing, play the guitar and also act. In fact this lady has got the Lott!!! The acting, staging, lighting and sound were all to an extremely high standard, all of which made it a night out to remember.

Not The BestI was excited to see Pixie Lott in this classic, although she did an amazing job of what was given to do act upon I was expecting more from the story and staging itself. This play may be worth going to if you are a fan of the book and film of Breakfast At Tiffany's but it is not a show for someone who knows nothing about it. Could have been more engaging and it is definitely not the best out there! It was the first time I walked out of any west end show after part 1! I would have walked out earlier but I didn't want to seem rude. Also the seats were VERY unconformable- this bit has nothing to do with the play.

We left at the interval! We weren't sure what to expect but it was a classic film and we had high hopes. it was flimsy, appeared unsure whether it should be a musical or a show or whether it should be funny or serious. Pixie Lott was ok as the lead but neither of us could understand barely a word of what the other female was saying. Overall we decided at the interval that we were better off getting an early train home than staying for the second half.

Utterly terrible.I am at a loss to understand who this was aimed at. My partner who had not seen the film or read the book was utterly lost and I; who love the film found myself baffled by and hugely disappointed by the theatrical adaptation. It is utterly crucial to the story that the audience fall in love with holly. This holly was erratic and utterly unlikable. Fred appeared to be being portrayed by Jim Carry. Utterly terrible; hugely disappointed.

Review: BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S at Haymarket Theatre
by Stuart King | Monday, August 1 2016, 09:25
Adapted for the stage by Richard Greenberg (Tony Award winner for Take Me Out), Truman Capote’s “BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY’S” hits the Haymarket Theatre West End, with pint-sized pop princess Pixie Lott, reprising Audrey Hepburn’s classic 1961 film portrayal of the effortlessly chic, yet endearingly vulnerable Holly Golightly.
