Ain't too Proud the Musical in London

Love sweet soul music? Don’t miss this. It’s the Broadway Musical AIN'T TOO PROUD - The Life and Times of The Temptations, and it’s on stage at the Prince Edward Theatre from 31st March 2023. You’ll discover the amazing story of the glittering US vocal group from Detroit who released a load of cool Motown hits through the ‘60s and ‘70s. Together with producer Norman Whitfield they created psychedelic soul, which in turn helped inspire modern R&B and soul music.

What's the plot of AIN’T TOO PROUD - The Life and Times of The Temptations?

This Tony Award-winning Broadway musical brings the incredible true story of the greatest R&B group of all time to London’s theatreland, reuniting members of the brilliant award-winning creative team behind the musical Jersey Boys, the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. Casting for AIN'T TOO PROUD – The Life and Times of The Temptations will be announced nearer the time, so keep a close eye on our news page.

AIN'T TOO PROUD won the 2019 Tony Award for Best Choreography. A fresh new musical from the same year, it follows the band from the back streets of Detroit to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, an extraordinary journey. Thanks to their uniquely smooth dance moves and legendary harmonies, the group hit the top ten charts forty two times. Fourteen of their top ten smashes got to number one.

Produced in the West End by Ira Pittelman, Tom Hulce, Stephen Gabriel and Jamie Wilson, this fantastic musical reveals how the band members met, how they rose to the top of the Motown soul scene, the astonishing heights they hit, and the personal and political conflicts that threatened to tear them apart. It’s set against the backdrop of a USA experiencing serious civil unrest, adding extra depth. This story of brotherhood, family, loyalty and betrayal is set to the sounds of The Temptations. Expect something heavenly with a sharp edge.

AIN'T TOO PROUD has a book by the Kennedy Prize-winning playwright Dominique Morisseau. Two-time Tony Award winning director Des McAnuff with Tony and Olivier Award winning choreographer Sergio Trujilio have worked together before, on the Tony Award winning hit show Jersey Boys. Scenic design comes from the Tony Award nominee Robert Brill with Costume design by Tony Award winner Paul Tazewell.

The Tony Award winning lighting designer Howell Binkley and Tony Award winning sound designer Steve Canyon Kennedy unite once again, having worked together on Jersey Boys. Projection design is by Drama Desk Award winner Peter Nigrini, and Hair and Wig design by Charles G. LaPointe. Music Supervision and Arrangements are by Kenny Seymour, Orchestrations are from the Drama Desk Award winner Harold Wheeler, and the Music Direction is by Matt Smith.
